Job Description :
This engineering position is with our Historic Skunk Works in Palmdale, California.

This position supports the LM Aero - Advanced Development Program as Aeronautical Engineer, Staff for the Flight Control and Vehicle Management Systems (FC&VMS) integration team.

Responsibilities include the definition, technical development, procurement, and integration of the Vehicle Management System (VMS).
Efforts include flow down of requirements into procurement specifications, management, traceability, and verification of requirements.
Perform trade studies for VMS architecture.
Develop models and simulations as needed for design and analysis.
Ensure VMS supports vehicle Certification and Qualification.
Lead trade studies and define test requirements for sensor systems, air data system, inceptors, actuation systems, computer systems, and some instrumentation. Experience with vendor management is required. Assignment requires aggressive subcontractor management of hardware suppliers for timely and on-cost delivery of products.
Design mechanical and electronic interfaces to support integration and test.
Systems Integration Laboratory build, integration and test.

Experience ranging from the definition to the integration of the VMS is required. This position demands rigorous application of systems engineering and thorough coordination between the flight controls team, other program teams and the customer.

This position requires knowledge and experience with failure management of a redundant VMS. Past positions should demonstrate the ability to coordinate with systems engineering from other teams. The candidate must have good grasp of systems interfaces, flight critical requirements, processes, and procedures. Experience with the development, operational checkout and formal test of flight critical systems for a new air vehicle program is highly desirable. Complex organizational and documentation skills are a must. The ability to balance strong drive for results with good interpersonal skills is required. A strong customer focus, reinforced with excellent communication skills is a necessity.

Must be a US Citizen, position is located at a facility that requires special access. Must have ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor or above Degree in a Engineering Technical or Scientific Discipline
Flight Control Systems or Vehicle Management System experience

Desired skills
Experience with supplier selection and management (such as creating Equipment Requirement Document/ Specifications/Statement of Work and managing vendor selection and vendor performance)
Flight simulation experience
Hands-on experience with system build, system integration, and test
Supersonic air vehicle experience
MATLAB, Simulink experience
Experience with software configuration management.
Experience in all aspects of the VMS development lifecycle: architecture, requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and flight test.
Experience programming in C/C++ and embedded software.
Experience with serial buses
Demonstrated ability coordinating with systems engineering, hardware designers and subsystems
