The Commercial Fleet Analytics group is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with subject matter expertise to translate field data into actionable intelligence with the goal to maintain the Sikorsky aircraft as the most reliable in the world.

Group Description:

Sikorsky’s Analytics, PHM & AI (APAI) team applies Sikorsky-developed technology, processes and expertise to aircraft data in order to drive proactive decision-making throughout the business. Data generated from on-board health usage and monitoring system (HUMS), aircraft operations, and aircraft maintenance is collected, conditioned and analyzed to identify opportunities for improvements to an aircraft’s design and supportability. The ultimate goal of APAI is to increase the availability of supported aircraft, reduce operational costs and to enable a strategic business shift to condition-based maintenance. APAI’s rapidly evolving Commercial Analytics team supports the Commercial Aftermarket through accurate and actionable information, proactive identification of problems, and development of innovative solutions.

Specific Responsibilities:

This Data Scientist position is critical to the Commercial Fleet Analytics group’s ability to understand fielded product data and its implications to Sikorsky and the customer. The candidate will serve as a subject matter expert pertaining to aircraft maintenance, logistics, and operations to enable the group to translate field data into actionable intelligence using advanced analytics tools and methodologies. The candidate should have a working knowledge of operations research, statistics, aircraft configuration and aircraft maintenance practices in addition to analytic methodologies, tools and models. Responsibilities of the data scientist include but not limited to the following: Reviewing source data entries, analyzing maintenance and operational trends against design criteria and drawing conclusions from a wide variety of data.

Responsible for the delivery, quality, communications, and accuracy associated with all outputs. Identify top readiness/cost drivers and reliability issues facing the helicopter fleet, and support corrective action tracking and implementation. Support development of new tools, methods and processes to identify, quantify and predict cost and reliability issues facing helicopter fleet Interface with other APAI Analytics team members to share best practices and discuss creative ways for solving shared challenges. Communicate analytical findings to management and customer on a regular basis.

Basic Qualifications
Familiarity with aircraft maintenance, support and/or design.
Experience in reliability engineering, aircraft maintenance and operations analysis, analytics, computer science or related field.

Desired skills
Experienced with the application of statistics and data-mining inbusiness environment (trend discovery and analysis, textmining, correlation and pattern discovery, etc.)
Familiar with SQL, and able to create/perform basic queries.
Skilled in Python, MATLAB, Excel or other data analytics toolsets.
Strong interpersonal communications skills (verbal, presentation and written). Strong problem solving skills, inquisitive mindset.
Focused on results and able to work closely with others in collaborative environment.

Computer Science background
Proficient in Python or R
5+ years working with Analytics tools and methods
Proficient with advanced MS Excel functions and VBA
Experience with Visual Studio
Proficient with JMP or other data discovery / statistical analysis tools
Proficient with MS and Oracle SQL
