Job Description :
Chief Technologist - for Marine and tidal energy Systems. The successful candidate serves as organization spokesperson on wave, tidal and river energy projects and/or programs. Provide technical leadership and oversight for LM Energy Advanced Energy Generation market segment. Identify opportunities to maximize LM’s added value in growing commercial business. Create LM Intellectual Property. Interface to the Advanced Energy Generation Chief Engineer as the single point of contact for parallel engineering activities. Coordinate engineering staffing to support Marine Hydrokinetics Programs across multiple sites. Advise program management on future IRAD investment and lead IRAD execution throughout product life-cycle. Execute technical assessment of new business opportunities as they arise through physics-based analysis. Support Executive Planning Panel (EPP) reviews. Communicate a vision for the role of Technical Operations in marine hydrokinetics and maintain a technology roadmap.

International travel is required

Basic Qualifications
At least 12 years of experience, with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in an alternative energy engineering or related firm, engaged in the design, analysis and specification of alternative energy technologies, with particular emphasis on wave and tidal energy systems.

BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution or commensurate experience

Ability to interpret, create, and document complex enterprise/system requirements and the associated concepts of operations

The candidate understands how requirements and operations drive overall architecture, performance, and cost of marine hardware

The candidate must be able to define and describe the design and operation of individual subsystems, as well as their interdependencies and interfaces

Individual should have a demonstrable record of performing physical modeling of systems operating in a subsea environment including principles of hydrodynamics, wave and tidal physics, power and energy, basic ocean structures, basic electrical power plants, heat transfer, weight and buoyancy, system reliability, and availability

The candidate will also have a record of leading engineering teams with superior written and verbal communication to internal and external customers

Ability to travel internationally

Desired skills
MS in Mechanical Engineering

The preferred candidate will understand the unique challenges operation in a subsea environment including corrosion, installation / recovery, and maintenance operations, especially in highly-energetic locations

The preferred candidate will have experience engaging with engineering contacts across MST in multiple disciplines and locations, as well as experience identifying, recruiting and training high-performing engineering staff

Experience with the design and operation of rotating turbomachinery, hydraulic systems, and control systems is preferred, along with programming experience in MATLAB

The preferred candidate will have experience with techno-economic analysis and Cost of Energy assessment for renewable energy technologies

Previous experience in leadership role, as manager or equivalent
