Job Description :
Provide technical leadership, physics and engineering skills, and critical thinking to support systems engineering, design, and development of space-based, airborne, and ground-based laser remote sensing and other electro-optical systems. Lead the development of innovative optical remote sensing systems and architectures, to include concept development, research studies, system trades, detailed design, development, and transition of end-to-end sensor solutions. Serve as the technical lead for lidar and other electro-optical study and system development programs. Lead technical innovation to develop discriminating new technical approaches. Understand customer missions and needs to enable alignment of technical innovations and solutions to customer missions. Lead business development activities through direct customer and end-user interactions, proposal writing, presentations, and peer review. Lead and collaboratively interface with multi-disciplinary technical teams to create and mature advanced technical solutions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal and external customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Perform other duties as necessary.

Basic Qualifications
The candidate must have a strong understanding of the design and development of optical and electro-optical systems and their use in applications such as: laser radar (also commonly referred as lidar or ladar), active and passive remote sensing, imaging, directed energy, electronic warfare, infrared countermeasures, optical communications, spectroscopy and/or atomic physics.

The candidate must have strong technical writing, presentation and overall communication skills for reports, proposals, technical presentations, and interaction with customers, team members, and suppliers. The selected candidate must be able to communicate complex ideas and explain relevant technology and concepts to an audience of both experts and non-experts.

12 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree; or 9 years of professional experience with a PhD.

Strong customer empathy with ability and willingness to pursue new business development.

The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to multitask complex technical and/or programmatic issues.

Desired skills
Skills and expertise in multiple technical aspects of lidar, such as laser remote sensing system phenomenology, modeling, simulation, systems engineering, trade studies, architecture definition, design, development, calibration and testing, algorithms and signal processing

Experience in performing or leading hardware and/or software development at multiple levels of technical maturity, such as new concept formation & analysis, first-of-kind laboratory demonstration, prototype development and field demonstration, and transition of developed technologies to operational use and/or products.

Expertise in a wide range of direct- and coherent- detection lidar phenomenologies, sensing modes, and applications is desired.

Expertise in the design, development and fielding of other electro-optic systems such as laser communications (lasercom), directed energy (DE) weapon systems, directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM), electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) imaging, hyperspectral imaging (HSI), hypertemporal imaging (HTI), polarimateric imaging (PI), stereo photogrammetry, infrared search and track (IRST) and/or full motion video (FMV) is considered relevant additional experience for the position.

Demonstrated proficiency in proposal writing and other aspects of business development is desired.

A successful candidate should a working knowledge of the function and design of key lidar subsystems such as:
• Lasers, detectors, modulators, control systems, and other electro-optical subsystems.
• Optical systems, including principles of geometrical optics, physical optics, and/or Fourier optics.
• Platform guidance, navigation and control (GNC) and target acquisition, pointing and tracking (APT) technologies and methods related to remote sensing systems on space and airborne platforms.
• Data processing, exploitation and dissemination (PED), including algorithm development, both on-board and ground processing software and hardware, and advanced data processing methods.
