Here within Lockheed Martin's Laser and Sensor Systems (L&SS)
Business we are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern, who is
excited to learn about lasers, to join our team. Whether it’s increasing
the visibility for helicopter pilots in brownout conditions or developing
next generation high power lasers for Directed Energy, Lockheed
Martin L&SS delivers innovative laser solutions for the defense,
aerospace, industrial, and scientific markets. Our group offers the
stability and prestige of a fortune 100 company with the feel of a
startup company and a very strong entrepreneurial spirit. This exciting
work will include the design and development of laser systems that are field deployable in military and commercial environments.

Due to the variety of the work products, our Interns will need a flexible
and adaptable skill set, with a strong learning orientation. Our interns
assist engineers in performing detailed engineering design and analysis
roles.

The Mechanical Intern will assist our Mechanical Engineers, who
have a strong product development mindset and engineering skills with
experience in some of the following: opto-mechanical design,
electronics packaging, 3D modeling, thermal and structural analysis.
Our Intern will help Mechanical Engineers who develop concepts using
3D CAD modeling software, holding design reviews, developing and
releasing engineering drawings, and supporting change activities.

Our Interns must be comfortable within a fast paced environment and
able to multi-task, have strong attention to detail, strong interpersonal
skills, good organizational skills, computer literacy, and a
demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment. We offer a

The Locale: Bothell is a city located in the state of Washington in the
Pacific Northwest. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Bothell is
home to Cascadia Community College and the University of
Washington, Bothell.

Basic Qualifications
The candidate should have a mechanical aptitude and good problem
solving skills as well as a familiarity with tolerancing and material
properties. Candidate should have good oral communication and
technical writing skills and be able to provide technical solutions to
design and analysis issues.

Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical engineering related discipline from an accredited college.

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Desired skills
3D modeling experience in Pro/E
Familiarity with Mil Standards, ruggedized design and environmental
test requirements
Opto-mechanical experience
Experience with design for manufacturing
Familiar with fiber laser systems packaging
Familiarity with GD&T (geometric design and tolerancing)
