Job Description :
Here at Lockheed Martin's RMS business in Akron, OH, we are working on many exciting programs and developing advanced products to meet the complex needs of our customers. We are looking for a motivated, hard-working, and detailed-oriented Chemical/Material Engineering intern to work various tasks with direction from a senior lead engineer.

The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting engineers in the support and development of program products for lighter-than-air systems. Assists with the development and testing of lightweight reinforced fabric laminates with gas barriers. Develops or assists in the development, evaluation and testing of seaming techniques for fabric structures. Evaluates technical and economic factors, recommending engineering and manufacturing actions for attainment of design objectives of process or product by applying knowledge of material science and related technologies. Reviews plans for new products and factors, such as strength, weight, and cost to submit material selection recommendations ensuring attainment of design objectives. Assists in planning and implementation of laboratory operations to develop material and fabrication procedures for new materials to fulfill product cost and performance standards. Confers with producers of materials, such as textiles, metals, ceramics, and polymers, during investigation and evaluation of materials suitable for specific product applications.

Basic Qualifications
Basic qualifications for this role will include working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical/Material/Polymer Engineering from an accredited college. Course work should include basic Chemical Engineering fundamentals. Candidate should exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, have strong interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, and team-based environment.

A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

Candidates must have the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance to at least the Secret level.

Desired skills
Candidate should have an understanding and ability to apply basic Chemical Engineering principles, theories and concepts. Solid math and science background. Aerospace related education/exposure. Knowledge of materials testing, materials modeling, working with suppliers, and prototyping material lay-ups.
