Job Description :
Function:
• Insure the air worthiness of multi-engine and advanced types of aircraft by planning, directing and carrying out their servicing, overhaul and repair at home plants and in foreign and domestic facilities of customers.
• The following must be maintained as required to remain in the upgrades job classifications: Flight Status Requirements: Flight Physical – Water Survival – Egress – ALSE Training (Aviation Life Support Equipment) Certified Air Crewmen Requirements: Annual Class – Open Book Test – Closed Book Test – Flight Check Out by Pilots.


Typical Responsibilities
• Prepare helicopters for flight by performing all necessary final check, adjustments and installations.
• Carry full responsibility for the movement of assigned aircraft through acceptance program, for condition of aircraft before presentation to pre-flight inspection, and for the resolution of all inspection pre-flight discrepancies and all pilot discrepancies.
• Conduct engine run-up and engage rotor to make operational check of controls, clutch, engine operating temperatures and pressures, etc. and be responsible for all necessary adjustments.
• Check fuel, oil, hydraulic, electrical, lubrication, and radio systems.
• Ensures compliance with aircraft configurations control, oil analysis program and test measuring diagnostic calibration.
• Evaluates maintenance operations and facilities for compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures, and operational policies.
• Track, adjust and balance rotor blades and balance heads.
• Remove, adjust and/ or replace any component of the helicopter such as landing gear, rotor head, gear box, engine, tail cone, etc.
• Responsible for the loading and unloading of helicopters for light and heavy hover.
• Move aircraft about for various tests.
• Prepares evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance repair and related activities.
• Recommends and administers plans and policies.
• Check and calibrate instruments.
• Direct, assist and instruct mechanics in accordance with work requirements.
• Under direction of Engineering personnel provide support to experimental, development and functional flights to test or demonstrate the integrity of the aircraft, systems, missions and/or projects; be responsible for maintenance and operation of aircraft during tie-down tests.
• Service aircraft away from plant.
• Perform, as necessary, various fabrication and assembly operations related to service, maintenance, and repair functions.
• Consult supervisor regarding any unusual conditions.
• Responsible for the safe custody and storage of aircraft at all times.
• Perform any hanger, field or shop assignments as required by workloads or emergency conditions.
• Accompany pilot on flights and make in-flight repairs, such as replacing fuses, adjusting instruments, and freeing jammed flight control cables, using hand tools.
• Perform analyses and operate analysis equipment and be prepared to take emergency measures to compensate for failure of equipment, such as electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Monitor fuel gates and compute rate of fuel consumption.
• Keep Log of fuel consumption and engine performance.
• Record malfunctions which were not corrected during flight and report needed repairs
• As required segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices to maintain cleanliness of assigned areas and comply with all EH&S procedures.

Basic Qualifications
• Requires 4 to 5 years of experience.
• Requires well-rounded knowledge of operations and structure of all model helicopters, engines, accessories, and electrical and hydraulic systems. Work from complicated blueprints and specifications and use a variety of precision measuring and testing instruments and gauges.
• Requires knowledge of, and familiarity with, inspection practices, sheet metal fabrication and hand signals (Air Force Regulations 62-10)
• Equivalent to 2 years high school plus 2 – 3 years trades training and A&P license. Must maintain current certification(s) as required.

Additional Information:
Work will be performed at the customer's facility in Pax River, MD and is dependent upon the CH-53K helicopter test program. The program began operations in Pax River in Q2 2017 and is planned to end in Q3 2019*. The individual may initially begin this assignment working at the Development Flight Center in Jupiter, FL for training or until additional aircraft transition to Pax River.

While working at Pax River, Sikorsky employees must follow operating procedures as established by the customer which include:
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must currently have and/or be capable of obtaining a security clearance.
- Must currently have or be capable of successfully completing an NCIC criminal background check to access Pax NAS.
- Must have a valid photo ID (driver's license + social security card or birth certificate OR US passport).
- Must have valid driver's license/vehicle insurance to drive on base at Pax NAS.
- In addition to the standard Sikorsky personal protective equipment (PPE), all maintenance personnel must be able to wear steel toe safety shoes and wear long pants. Additionally, cranials must be worn outside while working above four feet.

Other:
- Second shift position, but must be willing to work any shift.

*Based on current test plan schedule.
